Our Vision
"We are completely drowning in heat islands and food deserts.
We spend too much of our precious energy to refresh buildings and bringing fresh food to the cities.

Just as if we look back today and found the world strange
without mobile communication, laptop computers and the internet,
future generations will not understand why, for so long, we covered our buildings with burnt clay, stone, iron and tar – instead of gardens."
Why Kaatop
'Kaá' means 'leaf', 'bush', 'forest' in Tupi-Guarani, the original language of several native South American peoples.
Despite their immense transformative potential, green roofs account for less than 1% of the global roofing market – meaning the world continues investing in heat islands and building desert cities for the future.

With this in mind, we created a product that allows a large part of existing roofs to be replaced with green roofs, creating the possibility of transforming roofs that previously could not receive a green roof.
Our dream is to radically expand the scale of use of green roofs and other urban green infrastructure applications so that one day we can feel nature back in our daily lives.
Instituto Cidade Jardim is a Brazilian company pioneering in the research, development and installation of green roofs. Founded in 2008 by agricultural engineer Sérgio Rocha and ecologist Fabiana Scarda, its goal is to change the urban climate through its roofs.
With over 120,000 m2 of rooftop gardens installed throughout Brazil, we work together with the most renowned landscaping, architecture and engineering firms. Our brand is present in some of the most important projects in the country.
Headquartered in Itu, São Paulo and with a branch in Barcelona, Spain, with Kaatop we intend to offer an accessible tool for adaptation and mitigation of climate change to a larger share of the roofing tile market, with a focus on converting the surface of roofs and urban coverings into carbon sinks.
Kaatop is a registered trademark of the Jardim City Institute
